Lil' Nas X, satanic Nikes, Devil Videos and a Drop of Human Blood. A Christian Human's Perspective.

This fun example of sheer blasphemous, soul-stealing, Jesus-hating debauchery inevitably leads to Christians melting down, stomping feet, creating a holy and dusty uproar. It's reminiscent of Madonna's, "Like a Prayer," video from the late eighties. Folks going bananas. Lord knows, here we go again, only every single self-righteous day since Covid-19 sent us into quarantine. It’s too much for our innocent, pilgrim-esque, all-American, totally-not-racist, hashtag blessed hearts to handle.

Lil Nas tricked me, that little devil, into a great opportunity to talk to my kids (who already don't trust Christians as they are teenagers and my offspring) about how much Jesus loves us and that little sneaker, Lil Nas X, unconditionally. Jesus has done more for me than any human ever could. He built a bridge to God and reached out His hand and I am forever grateful. (Autry I still want to write that Jesus Bridge song.)

I'm sorry Lil' Nas X or any other human in the world ever felt less than or unworthy of God's love, especially at the hands or deprecatory voice of a Christian, and I'm sorry we aren't talking more about it. This should not be and should not have ever been the case. God loves you. There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more or less. Church is a hard place because it's full of broken people like me. Our minds can't comprehend the hope and peace that is in just one word from Jesus. If we recognized His goodness, we would throw all of this judgement down to the ground and run as fast as we could toward Him.

Jesus is other-worldly and not bound by short-sightedness. He sees my life from now into eternity. I'm thankful for this. Devil shoes and satan videos aren’t the result of the world suddenly being full of sin (it always has been), or the END TIMES BEING NEAR!!

Have a conversation with your kid instead of thinking the whole world is coming to and end over some tennis shoes. The Bible tell us to be still and let God fight for us. Teach this instead of fear. If I can face the attitudes in my house (and trust me, minds are blown), then you can do it in yours. Talk to your kids about WHY these things matter, not that God is FURIOUS ABOUT IT!  He's just not. He's too busy trying to get our attention.

Teach your kids to pray for, love, support, guide, reach out, and honestly give a flying poop about people. You can't hate people into a world of following Christ. He's better and bigger and way more incredible than that. Humans seek righteousness because it echoes a joyful life worth living. God wants us to live, and He's fully capable of calling my name on the daily in a way that makes me want to walk His way. He is a healer and I'm a jerk. His way is better.

People who love Jesus make my world go round. Some hearts are so wise and encouraging that in a few moments of conversation, my spirit is uplifted and renewed. Thank you for this. Thank you, dad. Thank you, ladies, you utterly awesome, human, champion, fighting machines. Thank you for reminding me that life is worth leaning into, even when I don't think I can make it.

Life can be good. Life is good. Every moment is a gift. If you are in pain, I promise you, God is in it with you. I see you, Lil Nas X. God is close to you at this very moment. Tell Him what you need. Don’t be afraid of the demons. After all, they are afraid of you. You’re the one who is created in God’s image. You are the one He calls His child.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
